SafeStart Global, Inc. ("SafeStart," "we," "us," or "our") is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation with EIN 41-4940337. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit safe-start.org (the "Site"), donate to SafeStart, sign up for our newsletter, submit a volunteer or contact form, or apply for a job or submit a CV through our careers form.
Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways:
- Information you provide directly: name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and any message content when you complete a contact, volunteer, or donation form; donation amount and frequency; and any other information you choose to submit.
- Payment information: When you make a donation, your payment card and billing information is collected and processed directly by our third-party payment processors, Zeffy and PayPal. SafeStart does not receive, store, or have access to your full payment card number. See "Payment Processing" below.
- Automatically collected information: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring URL, and approximate location, collected through standard web server logs and analytics tools.
- Cookies: We use cookies for essential site functionality and for analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. We do not use cookies for advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect some Site functionality.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process and acknowledge donations, including issuing tax-deductibility receipts where applicable;
- Respond to contact and volunteer inquiries;
- Send newsletters, program updates, and fundraising communications, where you have not opted out;
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site;
- Comply with legal, accounting, and regulatory requirements; and
- Communicate with you about your donation, volunteer application, or inquiry.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers, including our payment processors, email service provider, website hosting provider, and donor management platform, solely to perform services on our behalf;
- Our affiliated Nigerian implementing entity, SafeStart Nigeria, to the extent necessary for program administration, but only in aggregate or de-identified form unless you have specifically directed otherwise;
- Professional advisors, such as auditors, accountants, and legal counsel, as needed; and
- Government authorities or other third parties, where required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SafeStart, our donors, or others.
Payment Processing
All donation payments are processed by Zeffy and/or PayPal, our third-party payment processors. Your payment card information is transmitted directly to and handled by the applicable processor; SafeStart does not store full card numbers on its own systems. Use of the donation function is also subject to the applicable processor's own privacy policy and terms:

Job Applications
If you submit a CV, resume, or other information through our careers or job application form, we collect the information you provide, including your name, contact details, work experience, qualifications, and any other information you choose to include, such as a CV file or a link to a portfolio or professional profile. We use this information solely to evaluate your suitability for current or future roles at SafeStart.
We may share your application information with our affiliated Nigerian implementing entity, SafeStart Nigeria, where a role is based in or connected to Nigeria, including Kano-based positions.
We retain CVs and application information for 12 months from submission. If you are unsuccessful, we delete your information at the end of that period unless you ask us to keep your details on file for future opportunities. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your application information at any time by contacting us at hello@safe-start.org. If you ask to be added to our mailing list, we will retain your email address for that purpose until you unsubscribe, separately from the retention period above for your CV and application information.
Your Choices and Rights
Email opt-out. You may unsubscribe from newsletter or fundraising emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email. We will honor unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.
Access, correction, and deletion. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us at hello@safe-start.org. We will respond within a reasonable time and consistent with applicable law. We will retain records as needed to comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations (for example, donation records required for IRS substantiation).
State privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws. To exercise any such rights, contact us at hello@safe-start.org and we will evaluate your request.
Tax-Deductibility
SafeStart Global Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with EIN 41-4940337. Contributions to SafeStart Global Inc. may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by applicable federal and state law. Donors should consult their tax advisor regarding the deductibility of their contributions.
Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@safe-start.org.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected individuals in accordance with applicable law.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be posted on this page; continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
